At the end of the World Conservation Congress, at its session in Jeju, Republic of Korea, 6–15 September 2012, resolution 128 was adopted, urging “national governments to recognize that non-regression in their environmental policy and law is necessary for achieving sustainable development objectives except where flexibility enhances conservation”.
At the end of the World Conservation Congress, at its session in Hawaï, in the United States of America, 1-10 September 2016, resolution 074 was adopted, urging “all governments to take steps to implement effectively and to reinforce the principle of non-regression in the areas of environmental policy and law, with due regard for the constitutional provisions of each country, and with the full, informed and effective participation of relevant rights-holders and stakeholders and with due respect for the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities”.
