HAPPY NEW YEAR 2021

  • by

Dear colleagues,

The International Center for Comparative Environmental Law (CIDCE) thanks you for having maintained your commitment alongside it for the defense of the environmental cause and the promotion of environmental law, in the particularly difficult context of the pandemic which hit in 2020.

Thanks to you, environmental law was not entirely forgotten during the health crisis. Thus, in 2020, we continued the dissemination of news about the state of environmental law, for example following the forest fires in the Brazilian Amazon and Pantanal. We have also participated in international conferences which are now taking place in a virtual format, which is paradoxically more appropriate for the protection of the environment and favors a wider participation of non-state actors. By way of illustration, the CIDCE was present, in July 2020, at the first informal substantive consultation meeting on resolution 73/333 of the United Nations General Assembly on the draft Declaration of the next United Nations Assembly for the Environment (UNEA-5). We also worked together to adopt two motions submitted by the CIDCE within the framework of the next IUCN World Conservation Congress: Preventing conflicts of interest relating to chemicals and plant protection products (Motion 011) and Measuring the effectiveness of environmental law usign legal indicators (Motion 060).

Dear colleagues, for this new year, where the improvement of the world health situation is our common aspiration, we send you our warmest wishes for better health for you and your loved ones under the sign of a flourishing recovery of human life in harmony with the environment.

Happy new year 2021.
